Children and Youth Ministry

Join Benei Aor!!!!
Do you like dance, drums, drama and flags?
Youth - Ages 8-22

Program Overview

Benei Aor (pronounced BEN-ay AH-or) means “Children of Light.” This high-energy worship, dance, drum, drama and flag group began in Recife, Brazil, fourteen years ago and performs today in multiple outreach venues - schools, hospitals, parks, festivals, etc. Twenty-one members of the group came to the U.S. in June 2007 and performed throughout Alabama and North Carolina. Benei Aor is in its second season in the U.S. with three troupes - one at the Shelby County, Alabama YMCA, one at Lamb of God CEC and one at Open Door Church. A blended leadership team from Brazil and the U.S. will meet to conduct training for CEC youth from around the country and the world during International Convocation, July 30 - August 1.

Goals and Objectives

This program provides opportunities for young people to....

• participate in discipleship and evangelism training
• present the Gospel through performing arts, prayer and worship
• see themselves as ministers of God and His Word
• learn multiple choreographed activities which develop and support Christian values
• gain a positive outlet for their physical well-being
• encourage their individual abilities while having fun.

Offered at Convocation for young people, ages 8-22, the troupe will meet for training Thursday and Friday from 9 am - 12 pm and 2 pm - 4 pm. This time will be spent in worship, learning routines and discipleship. Our objective is to train young people in at least two different choreographed routines during the course, as well as teach students how to evangelize and intercede through prayer.

After training, the group will present choreography on Thursday night at the evening Youth Event and present the Gospel on Friday morning from 10 am - 12 pm at a YMCA and an abortion clinic - with parental approval. Depending on the schedule, the troupe may also present at Convocation one evening. This training includes a Benei Aor t-shirt and other materials.

Youth leaders interested in starting a troupe in their local congregations are also welcome to attend some or all of the sessions.

Program Overview

The Benei Aor leadership team consists of Dalvani Oliveira, International Director, and Mitzi Howard, U.S. Director, along with several youth Benei Aor leaders from Brazil and the U.S. Dalvani started the ministry in Brazil which has grown to involve over 500 youth in 14 different churches. In Christian ministry for over 25 years, Mitzi has worked with children, youth and young adults in multiple classroom settings, including church, school and home school. Teaching piano and leading worship made Benei Aor a perfect fit for her. The U.S. team performed in the Alabaster Christmas Parade, the largest in Alabama, and received awards in 2005 and 2007. The inspiration for the local team came from Brazil while visiting there in 2005. At present, three U.S. Benei Aor teams have formed and ministered in many venues, including nursing homes, day care centers, YMCAs, homeless shelters, parks, businesses, etc.

Mitzi will contact each registered family by phone or email to gather information on each participant so leadership can better place participants in the troupe according to their age, skills and interests.

Friendship across the nations

Program Overview

The 2-3 year olds will have a more laid back atmosphere with coloring, crafts, outdoor playtime, nap time, singing, dancing and snack time. Please bring your children's favorite "cuddly", "lovey", "sleepy", any special drinking cup that they like to use, a change of clothes, sunscreen and your cell phone number. Ages 4-5 and 6-7 will have their own groups. (This could change depending on how many register.) The morning session will focus on teachings - making friends across the globe, crafts, playtime and snack time. In the afternoon the children will focus on play and getting to know one another. We may even do a treasure hunt! Again, please be sure to supply sun screen and your cell phone number.
