“Where Now the Horse and the Rider?” Christ’s Call for Warrior-Protectors

A subplot of The Lord of the Rings, by Catholic author J. R. R. Tolkien, is the restoration of a once-mighty kingdom that has deteriorated and is on the verge of being conquered. In it God gives us a prophetic picture of the Church in our day. The enemy is pillaging almost at will, and the forces for good are small, scattered, and bickering with one another. Aragorn – destined by God to personally lead the restoration of this kingdom – asks, “Where now the horse and the rider?” We will investigate this real-life call of Jesus Christ, and how each of us can answer “Here am I – send me!” at some level of our life.

Bio For Fr. Columcille Jackson

Fr. Columcille Jackson was raised in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and saved at the age of 9. He felt the call to ordination on a college retreat in 1973, but the way never seemed clear. With a solid evangelical foundation the Lord led him and his wife on a spiritual journey through the liturgical and charismatic streams, finally coming home to all three in the Charismatic Episcopal Church when Church of The King (Olathe, KS) was received in 1993. Ordained a deacon in 1994 and a priest in 2003, he and his wife Edye hold fast in their “place to stand to run” as they patiently walk out the call toward intentional community in the ICCEC.

Breaking the Bondage of Debt

The step-by-step debt elimination/retirement savings plan presented in this workshop is a practical approach to eliminating one of America’s most pervasive problems, the overwhelming consumer debt level. Our current economy is in terrible trouble, and that is generally because tens of millions of Americans have gone deeper and deeper into debt to buy a lifestyle they simply cannot sustain, especially if they ever want to retire.

This is more important than just ensuring a comfortable retirement. As one gets more and more dependent on credit to maintain his lifestyle – he’s really becoming more and more vulnerable should anything happen to interrupt his income. Most Americans would be in serious financial trouble if they missed as few as two paychecks.

Compare that to what happens to people following the roadmap to financial freedom presented at this workshop. They're completely out of debt -- including paying off their house -- in just 7 to 10 years -- using nothing more than the money they already bring home each month. From that point on, ALL their monthly income is available for investing, and most people could quit working and live off the interest in as little as 5 years after their debt-freedom date (think of the number of full-time, self-funded clergy and ministry workers that could produce).

Bio For Deacon Thomas (Tom) Abbott

Deacon Thomas (Tom) Abbott was born in Pittsburgh, PA. April 26, 1949. He earned two degrees at the University of Pittsburgh, a BA in Political Science (East European Studies) and an MA in History (Russian), and a certificate at the Lenin Pedagogical Institute in Moscow, USSR.

Tom entered the US Navy in November, 1974, and served for 20 years as an intelligence officer with the Office of Naval Intelligence, eventually reaching the rank of commander. Much of his time in the Navy was spent overseas with frequent deployments and lengthy tours in the Philippines, England, and Israel.

In November 1994, Tom resigned his US Navy officer's commission and moved to Jacksonville FL, where he helped found the International Development Agency, the “missions” arm of the Charismatic Episcopal Church (CEC). Tom was ordained to the deaconate of the CEC in May 1995, and he serves at the Church of the Messiah in Jacksonville.

Tom’s secular career after leaving the Navy has been in the world of finance. He gained experience as a mortgage loan officer and as a credit counselor, and he is a Certified Budget Counselor with Crown Financial Ministries.

Since February, 1997, Tom has been a legal assistant and the CFO at the Bankruptcy Law Firm of Lansing J. Roy, the largest debtor bankruptcy law firm in North East Florida. At the law firm, Tom created and teaches the “Life After Bankruptcy” workshops, a program designed to assist people to recover from bankruptcy by sharpening their knowledge of financial principles. This program has received national attention.

Tom and his wife, Jennifer, recently founded Zebedee, Inc., a credit counseling agency affiliated with Debt Management Corporation, a non-profit company.

We are easter children

Easter is not just a day but a season commemorating the forty days the resurrected Jesus walked the earth before ascending back to the Father. During this period our Lord did several things for His closest followers, things important not just to them but to us in our Christian discipleship.

He provided them with proof that He was risen from the dead, demonstrating that faith is not blind faith -- there are solid reasons to believe. He forgave them for their cowardice during Holy Week and restored them to a close relationship with Him. And, He showed them three necessary marks for their on-going relationship with Him via His Church: Scripture, Sacraments, and Holy Spirit power.

This workshop will apply the Bible's account of how the risen Christ ministered to His disciples and how He assists us in our daily life.

Canon Pearson is an internationally known Bible teacher and the author of several popular books. This workshop is a preview of his next book. He notes, "I have three goals in writing and teaching: First, to be faithful to the Biblical text; second, to apply that text to our own walk with Him; and third, to apply the text to our work for Him in His Church."

He and his wife, Dr. Mary Grace Pearson, have developed a whole-person healing center called New Creation Healing Center. It combines medicine, Christian counseling, and prayer to minister to people in body, soul, and spirit. In 2002 the World Council of Churches invited Canon Mark to be one of 26 international participants in a Consultation on the Ministry of Healing held in Ghana. He also participated in the second Consultation, held in Chile in late 2003.

Commissioned to Heal

In Mark’s Gospel, Chapter 16, verses 17 and 18, we find Jesus saying to His disciples, “and wonders will follow those who believe and they will lay their hands on the sick and they will be healed. Believing is the essential word in receiving healing in the presence of our living Lord Jesus. Come discover how to fulfill your God-given Commission.

Bio For Rev. James Ross and Jane Ross

Father Jim and Jane’s ministry began in “The Camps Farthest Out” over thirty years ago where their leadership abilities were grounded in prayer. Both of them became active in this Spirit-filled “organism” in every aspect of the program. This led to membership in the International Order of St. Luke, the Physician. Membership expanded rapidly to leadership. While Jane was leading Music and worship plus leading Prayer Groups, Fr. Jim became the elected Warden of Region Three (the Southeastern United States and the Bahamas). This in turn led to Father Jim’s election to the North American Board of the Order. He has been serving within this body for eighteen years.

During this time he has fulfilled the following offices, Executive Assistant to the North American Warden, International Liaison, member of the Editorial Board of “Sharing magazine” and Executive Chaplain of the Order of St. Luke. He has been leading Healing Missions throughout the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Jane sometimes joins him to lead workshops and Interactive Groups. As a point of interest, one of Jane’s mentors was Agnes Sanford.

Father Jim has been an ordained priest for twenty-nine years, having left the Syro-Chaldean Church of North America to become an active priestly advocate of the Charismatic Episcopal Church.

Both Father Jim and Jane come hand in hand to glorify God knowing that of themselves they can do nothing.

Basics of Church Administration

A parish Guide for church administration, reporting and bookkeeping. Church administration is often overlooked in the small parish and not considered a core element of establishment or growth. This equipping ministry is however one of the secrets to being “faithful in little”; laying a solid foundation for healthy church expansion. This brief overview will touch on organizational, legal, financial, building, people and diocesan reporting issues that effect both inward development and the outward perception of parish identity.

Creating CEC Worship; Ancient-Future Liturgy

This workshop will benefit churches with no musicians seeking a way to develop a music ministry while using contemporary resources for their Sunday worship. This workshop will also benefit churches that have a music minister, with perhaps limited musical experience, to enhance their musical vocabulary and grow technically. Finally, this workshop will benefit churches with excellent music ministries to grow in blended worship with resources from all three streams to build and perfect their vocabulary. Join me on a journey toward excellence.

Bio For Father Peter Donatelli

Over the last twenty-five years I have worked in many churches as a music minister. I am amazed that most churches I have worked for held worship and praise with little consideration for creating mediocrity regardless of resources. I believe in the CEC vision to make visible the Kingdom to all Nations of the world etc., and for this is a call to excellence especially in what we do Sunday morning. No matter what financial situation your church may be in, or staff, or musical abilities, I know every church can have a successful music program. Do you own a computer? Do you have an MP3 player, a microphone, or a boom box? As CEC ministers, we are obliged to do the most with whatever we have, therefore help me, help do liturgy.

Giving Birth God’s Way

The Birthing Clinic of the Cathedral of the King in Manila, Philippines is a realization of the vision that was in the heart of our Primate, Archbishop Loren Thomas Hines for a long time.

This is our church’s ministry to our childbearing mothers, providing them with pre-natal check-ups, nutritional counseling and prenatal exercises. Most importantly, mothers are given the opportunity to exercise their faith and trust in God that will enable them to give birth without analgesia and anesthesia, freed from fear!

This ministry is a proclamation that being pregnant and giving birth is not a sickness but a joyful family event for the gift of life bestowed on them.

We give thanks to God for His redeeming love experienced by those mothers who had previous caesarian sections and some were advised to also have one yet were able to give birth normally and were spared from unnecessary and incredible expenses. Our book on “Giving Birth God’s Way” has shown testimonies of those mothers who enjoyed God’s blessing through the ministry of the Birthing Clinic.

To God be the glory!

EdSkiba

Pastoral Crisis Intervention (PCI)

PCI is a process of psychological stabilization to prepare a person for spiritual intervention in a traumatic situation. The intention of that process is described by George S. Everly, Jr., Ph.D. as follows:

The pastoral community represents a large and often untapped resource in times of crisis. It possesses a unique aggregation of characteristics that makes it uniquely valuable amidst the turmoil of a psychological crisis. In critical incidents such as terrorism, mass disasters, violence, the loss of loved ones, and any events wherein human actions result in injury, destruction, and/or death, the pastoral community may possess especially powerful restorative attributes. Unfortunately, heretofore, there has existed no generally recognized and accepted manner in which the healing factors inherent in pastoral care have been functionally integrated with the well-formulated principles of crisis intervention. Pastoral Crisis Intervention is intended to facilitate that integration.

As you can see, it is related to Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) but is unique in the spiritual foundation it is built upon. PCI is not intended to be a “religious,” dogmatic or doctrinal intervention per se, but a “spiritual,” pluralistic intervention which goes beyond the temporal characteristics of a person and takes into account the spirituality of that person in whatever form that spirituality may take. PCI is a stabilizing intervention, NOT counseling or treatment.
